Visiting the colleges and universities to which you are interested in applying, is highly recommended.
There are over 3500 colleges and universities in the United States, so before you can think about visiting some college campuses you must narrow the field down a bit. You can do this through the online college search engines we have listed on our website.
Once you have narrowed your list you should begin to visit those colleges. You can start visiting college campuses as early as a freshman, or before. When ever possible, visit the school while the school is in session. Although you can learn a lot about a college during the summer, there is added value to seeing the students on campus.
Since colleges are often not in session at the time you are available to visit, we suggest you visit when ever you can. Then try to revisit those colleges that are part of your final selections.
Most colleges and universities offer guided tours of their campus. You can usually find out tour information on the website or by calling the admission's office.
Again, we recommend you visit the college before you choose to attend there, but if a visit is not possible the internet might be able to help you. Most college websites offer "virtual tours". These tours will show slides or videos highlighting their college. You can also find out a lot about the demographics of a college or university tough the college search engines available.
