Mission Statement
The Mission of the Southern Regional Guidance Department
is to provide academic, social, emotional and behavioral
support to the students of Southern Regional so that
each student can take advantage of his/her potential now
and in the future.
Belief Statements:
We support the Southern
Regional School District Belief Statements and have rephrased some of
that work to fit our program aspirations.
-
We believe that
although all students have potential and self worth, not all
students feel this way about themselves.
Action:
We will help
students learn to identify and capitalize on their strengths.
-
We believe that all
students want to learn and want to succeed.
Action:
When students don’t demonstrate their desire to learn, we will
attempt to help students see the connections between their learning
and their success.
-
We believe that
students should have a safe nurturing environment in school and at
home in which to learn, grow and mature.
Action:
When students encounter difficulties that interfere with their
learning in school, or at home, we will work to help them cope with,
and try to overcome, these obstacles.
-
We believe that
raising a child is a rewarding experience for parents and a
challenging one.
Action:
As parents meet these challenges, we will provide support to them
directly, and through referrals.
-
We believe that
teachers want all their students to achieve academic success.
Action:
We will provide support to teachers and students when difficulties
arise that interfere with a student’s academic success.
-
We believe that
motivation and goal setting are important characteristics found in
students that are successful.
Action:
We will help and support students in developing their goals and
finding their motivation.
-
We believe that
post-secondary opportunities are important to our students.
Action:
We will help students plan for, and transition into, their
post-secondary opportunities.
-
We believe that
students’ personal issues, and/or their at-risk behaviors, can often
interfere with their ability to be successful in school.
Action:
We will attempt to develop relationships with students that will
enable us to be in the position to help them make positive personal
and academic decisions.
-
We believe that
students who succeed at SRHS will have a greater chance at success
in adult life.
Action:
We will attempt to help students be successful in SRHS through our
program and our personal interventions.
