Recognizing the need for students to function in the global marketplace in the future, the Southern Regional World Language Department strives to develop communicative competency and understanding of the many cultures in America and the world at large.

In 7th and 8th grades, students are able to study Spanish as a quarter cycle class. As 8th graders with teacher recommendation, they may choose to take Spanish as a full-year class, enabling them to go into 9th grade at the Spanish II level.

Students are introduced to the languages in a variety of ways, and most are student-centered. Through communicative activities in partners or groups, or hands-on cultural projects, students are exposed to the many facets of a world language. This exploratory program introduces several thematic units which enable students to begin developing the skills required to function in the target language.
