SOCCER COACHES ASSOCIATION OF NEW JERSEY (SCANJ) NEWSLETTER
New Jersey High School Boys Interscholastic Soccer Coaching Association
September 16, 2002

To:     New Jersey Boys Soccer Coaches
From:    Eric Hastings, President SCANJ (ehastings@mercercounty.org)

Welcome to The Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey.  I just wanted to take a moment to update every one of all the fantastic events we were involved in during the past year.
Our Annual State Banquet was a huge success.  The move to the East Brunswick Hilton has proved to be a very positive one.  The Hilton has a magnificent atmosphere and the service was prompt and courteous.  This year's Banquet was one of our largest ever.  We hold the proud distinction of hosting the largest high school soccer banquet in the country.  Each year we honor approximately four hundred and fifty student/athletes.  The 2002 Banquet will be held at the East Brunswick Hilton on December 15th.
The 2001 Senior All-Star Showcase at Rutgers-Camden was fantastic.  Our College Liaison Committee, did a fabulous job notifying coaches and working with the wonderful staff at Rutgers-Camden.  About thirty-five college coaches were in attendance to watch some of the best high school soccer players in the country.
I would like to give a special thanks to The Soccer Post and Uhlsport for co-sponsoring our event.  Photos of the event and the teams can be found at the following web site: www.srsd.org/~akmosko/showcase01.  The 2002 Senior All-Star Showcase will played at Rutgers-Camden on December 14th.
Many of our executive members were on a panel discussion recently at the National Soccer Coaches Convention in Philadelphia.  The panel was labeled "The High School Battleground."  Many of the topics that we, as high school coaches have, were discussed and the hour and forty-five minutes flew by.
The National Association (NSCAA) is working on creating a high school licensure course to be held at the convention or as a non-residential course.
Speaking of high school licensure, Rick Meana (Director of Coaching New Jersey Youth Soccer), Charlie Inverso (MCCC), Miller Buglieri (Pingry), and the executive committee of the SCANJ, are in the final stages of completing the guideline for a high school license through New Jersey State Soccer with Rick Meana.  We are aiming to offer this course at our 2003 State Clinic.  If you have any suggestions please contact me.
The 2003 NJSIAA/SCANJ State Soccer Clinic will be held on April 6th at Monmouth University.  Featured clinicians will be: Chris Turner (Monmouth), Shannon Poser (Monmouth), and others to be named later.
The SCANJ honors the top high school soccer players in the state of New Jersey.  This is a very difficult task and we need your cooperation.  If you or any of your fellow coaches are interested in helping out, please contact me.
Thank you for your cooperation and good luck to you in the season ahead.
        Sincerely,
        Eric Hastings
