Science

The Southern Regional Science Department recognizes the need for scientifically literate citizens. Science and technology are driving and pervasive elements in today's society and the department stresses the need for academic excellence and the development of each student's individual potential. Within the program, there is an emphasis on both theoretical and applied scientific concepts. The courses are designed to meet the needs of a diverse student body and strive to develop both cognitive and affective skills. All students are required to complete at least three years of science, while those planning to attend institutes of higher education are encouraged to take up to four years of science courses with an added lab period.

One of the main objectives of the department is to encourage students to investigate new interests and develop an understanding of and appreciation for their natural environment.

Students should plan their science course sequence in close coordination with the mathematics courses they choose.
